Telangana has world class educational institutions that provide quality education in a variety of disciplines and has opportunities in different sectors that one can enter after their education. Students after receiving quality education, are equipped with all the skills required to get into any field of their choice. Telangana has seen an exponential increase in the number of students from the state receiving admissions in numerous reputed institutions across the globe and various other international opportunities is indicative of the quality of education in Telangana.
Telangana is home to 28 universities out of which 3 are central universities and 17 are state universities. Numerous reputed institutions like IIT, IIIT Hyderabad, NALSAR, NIPER,IIIT Basara, NIT Warangal, AIIMS Bibinagar etc., are situated in Telangana. Apart from these the state has over 2,900 junior colleges and over 41,360 schools (out of which over 26,000 are public schools), above 1000 degree colleges, more than 1300 professional colleges (as in 2022-23) and many more coaching and training institutions. The state also has 573 different categories of libraries functioning under the control of the Department of Public Libraries, Government of Telangana.
Upon completion of education the state has numerous job opportunities for learners in different fields of their liking. The state has the education structure of 10+2+3(4) and has an abundance of colleges and institutions for students to choose from.
The state has priorities education for all and for that end residential schools (gurukul schools) were established under the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS) and the Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Society (TTWREIS) to provide quality education to children from marginalised communities. As of 2022 about six lakh students are studying in as many as 981 Gurukul Schools in Telangana. Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education has selected gurukuls as a case study to study the success story of the Telangana government-run social welfare institutions.
Apart from these, the state has multiple schemes for the development of the infrastructure in public schools, to increase enrollment and scholarships for students from different socio- economic backgrounds like mana ooru mana badi etc.
The state government has scholarship programmes such as the Overseas Ambedkar Overseas Vidya Nidhi (SC Development), Ambedkar Overseas Vidya Nidhi (ST Welfare), Chief Minister’s Overseas Scholarship Scheme for Minorities, Mahatma Jyothiba Phule Overseas Vidya Nidhi for BC and EBC students and more for promoting and creating a level playing field for all students irrespective of their economic background.
The state prioritises research and development beginning at the learning stage and hence has many research and development (R&D) facilities in educational institutions. Learners have access to incubation centres like T-Hub, TSIC (Telangana State Innovation Cell), T-Works, WE Hub (India’s First State Led-Incubator for Women Entrepreneurs) etc., where they have the opportunity to become budding entrepreneurs. Such world class facilities help foster the orientation and approach of learners from an early stage.
