Living in Telangana

Telangana is a rapidly developing state and economy. It ranks first in the country in terms of per capita income which is 3.08 lakhs that is 1.8 times higher than the national average. With quality infrastructure in Transportation, Energy, Communications, Water supply, and Sanitation, affordable living, increasing green cover (7.7% increase in 5 years), pleasant climate, and ever-expanding work opportunities, Telangana is rapidly becoming the most accessible and sought after state to live in.

Telangana has so much to offer for all its residents. From availability of water, food, housing, public transport, public healthcare, education, natural environment, recreation and entertainment (such as theme parks, adventure parks, films, theatre, shopping malls, restaurants, etc.) the state has everything one could want. The capital city, Hyderabad, also has a vibrant nightlife scene and also has a rapidly increasing green cover with the state focusing on building more parks and green spaces to increase urban lung spaces. Hyderabad was among the 66 cities named by the UNESCO in the list of new Creative Cities which aims at pushing the Sustainable Development Goals through innovative thinking and action.

Public transport such as TSRTC buses throughout the state, metro rail and MMTS local trains in Hyderabad facilitate easy travel for all. Hyderabad metro has the second largest metro network in the city and is gearing up for more expansion in the coming years.

Also, with specialised focus on the environment, the state has made its mission to increase the green cover through its initiative ‘Telangana Ku Haritha Haaram’ (TKHH) in 2015-16, which is planting saplings with the active involvement of the general public. This is considered the third largest afforestation programme in human history. As of 2022-23, 270.65 saplings have been planted in the state with an achievement rate of 117.68%. This majorly contributed to the increase of the green cover in the state by 7.7% in 5 years.

Thanks to the Haritha Haaram initiative, Hyderabad, the capital city of the state, has won many international accolades like the ‘World Green City Award 2022’ and ‘Living Green for Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth’ conferred by the International Association of Horticulture Producers (AIPH).

The mission of increasing green cover with ample greenery in and around Hyderabad, coupled with large-scale infrastructural undertakings like building flyovers, underpasses and underbridges, the city balances both connectivity and urban lung spaces efficiently. With many living parameters considered,  Hyderabad has been adjudged the most liveable city in the country for five years in a row as per Mercer’s Quality of Living Ranking.
