Medaram Jathara – 2018 starts on 31 January and concludes on February 03.
The biennial ‘Sammakka Saralamma Jathara – 2018’ will commence on 31st January and conclude on 03rd February in Medaram village of Tadvai Mandal in Jayashankar-Bhupalapally District. Telangana is going to witness the mammoth congregation of nearly one crore tribal and non-tribal pilgrims on the three days’ of Jathara. Telangana Government has made all the arrangements for the feast.
The itinerary is as follows:
31 January, Day 1: Goddess Saralamma, daughter of Sammakka, will be brought to the altar
01 February, Day 2: Sammakka to be brought to the altar
02 February, Day 3: Devotees and pilgrims offer jaggery and obeisance to mother-daughter deities of Sammakka-Saralamma at the altar
03 February, Day 4: Idols of Sammakka and Saralamma will be taken back into the forest
The historical figures Sammakka and Saralamma refused to oblige an unjust taxation law brought in by the Kakatiya dynasty rulers and martyred while fighting them. Muriyas, Mariyas, Dhurves of Madhya Pradesh, Gonds of Orissa and Maharashtra, Gothikoyas of Chhattisgarh, Chenchus of Adilabad, Koyas/Nayakpods of Khammam and Karimnagar districts and Rajagonds from Bastar region are expected to attend the mega event.
