Working In Telangana

Telangana is a booming place for people looking for work opportunities in various fields like IT, Pharma & Life Sciences, public sector, innovation & entrepreneurship, among others. Over 22.5 lakh jobs have been created in the state in 14 priority sectors in the past 9 years. According to the household survey of the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) in April, 2023, Telangana was the only major State in the country to record a Labour Participation Rate of more than 52.43 per cent. With the employment rate being on the surge and unemployment on a declining trajectory, the state with its promising work culture, affordable travel and connectivity  is haven to people looking for work opportunities. 

According to the Handbook of Statistics released by the Reserve Bank of India, the unemployment rate decreased by nearly half in rural Telangana. Accordingly, the overall rural unemployment rate came down from 65 persons for every 1,000 persons in 2017-18 to 34 per every 1,000 persons in 2020-21. While male unemployment rate reduced from 72 in 2017-18 to 43 per cent in 2020-21, the female unemployment rate decreased from 50 to 22. This is a testament to the rapid increase of women entering the workforce. 

Telangana offers opportunities in all major sectors like the Primary Sector (Crops, Livestock, Forestry and Logging, Fishing and Aquaculture), Secondary Sector (Manufacturing, Construction, Electricity, Gas, Water Supply and other  utilities and the Tertiary Sector (Trade,Repair, Hotels and Restaurants, Real Estate, Ownership of Dwelling and  Professional Services, Transport, Storage, Communication, and Services related to Broadcasting,  Public Administration).

The state lays special emphasis on 14 sectoral thrust areas (such as Life sciences, IT hardware, Precision Engineering, Food processing and nutrition, Automobiles, Textiles, Plastics and Polymers, FMCG & Domestic Appliances, Engineering and Capital Goods, Gems & Jewelry, Waste Management & Green Technology, Renewable Energy & Solar Parks,Mineral & Wood-based industries and Transportation), which have shown a sharp rise in employment and there is always employment being generated in these areas. 22.5 lakh jobs have been created in these sectors in the past 8 years. 

The State was recognised by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, as a top performer in developing a strong startup ecosystem in the State. The State was also recognised as an institutional champion, a capacity-building pioneer, an incubation hub, and an innovative leader. Notably, in the IT sector 1 out of every 3 jobs in India is being generated in Telangana. Also, the top five tech companies of the world have their presence in Telangana.

Telangana is also home to Hyderabad Pharma City (HPC) which is the world’s largest integrated cluster in Hyderabad for pharmaceutical industries. The cluster has been recognised as a National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) by the Government of India, due its national and international importance. Hyderabad, is touted to be the vaccine capital of India, having more than an estimated 50% of global production. It is estimated that in the coming year Hyderabad will produce 1400 crore doses of vaccinations. Naturally, the biopharma sector is one of the leading sectors in employment generation in the state. 

The Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector has a major investment in the form of Foxconn that is establishing a manufacturing facility in Telangana that is expected to generate more than 1 lakh jobs. 

In the Textile Industry, Kitex is establishing two manufacturing units in Warangal (Kakatiya Mega Textile Park) and in Ranga Reddy district (Sitarampur). This is said to create more than 40,000 jobs. 

Telangana also has 68 Special Economic Zones in various sectors spread across various districts and distributed evenly not being limited to one geographical area.   

Even in the public sector, thousands of jobs were created for various government posts and departments like Panchayat secretary, Police department recruitments, the Telangana State Public Service Commission Group services etc.
